Thickness gauges

Thickness gauges are used as industry standards to specific various products. There are described and sold as per their thickness gauge numbers. And if the numbers are not accurate it can lead to substantial discrepancies in strength, dent resistance, and durability. This discrepancy mainly arises because everyone has a different definition of “gauge”. The US Dictionaries tend to read and explain the gage, which is nothing else but a “gauge”.  The common usage of gauges is to measure thickness, therefore thickness gauge.

Thickness gauge can be of different form and provide reading for different forms. You can have analog gauges or digital gauges. You can have hand held gauge or you can have ultrasonic gauges. These thickness gauges can read thickness of various objects such as metal, plastics, paint, etc. However, the gauges can be broadly subdivided into two sections corrosion thickness gauge and precision gauges.

The corrosion thickness gauges measure wall thickness of pipelines, tanks and other industrial structures that can be or are already exposed to corrosive and erosive conditions. Using the ultrasonic technology these thickness gauges can measure the thickness of steels, aluminum, glass and plastic. The dual element transducers make sure accurate thickness measurement can be achieved of pitted and corroded surfaces.

On other hand, Precision thickness gauges are single element transducers which measure thickness of finish-machined and formed parts. In this case the thickness gauge ultrasonically measures the wall thickness of machined and formed parts. Applications in general engage measuring thin parts and parts with smooth, parallel surfaces.

Thickness gauge can offer various features such as sophisticated data acquisition, big numerals on the backlit LCD or live waveform in the optional A-scan Mode or application auto-recall. Both varieties of gauges are offered in quite a few versions allowing you decide the right tool for your work with no paying for features you do not require. You can select the best suited thickness gauge you require depending up on the usage you have.
